Recipes from the Garden: The Blog Is Back!
Recipes from the Garden, the sister blog to Seven Oaks, is back!
I'm dangerous when I take the weekend off. This weekend, I shut off the computer. I checked emails first thing in the morning - I never know when a client or one of the writers I supervise might need me - but that was it. I unplugged not only the computer, but the satellite dish. I did things like go to a friend's 60th birthday party and visit another friend's garden. I went to church. I read a gigantic Peter Straub spooky novel from cover to cover. I actually got out my counted cross stitch and stitched another pansy flower into a square for a quilt. In short....I relaxed.
I let myself think. I thought long and deeply about where I wanted my personal writing to go. I realized, for example, that while I'm still passionate about natural health, my health blog wasn't attracting readers. Ditto for a few other blogging projects. I also realized that my spirit needs fiction writing, even if the act of writing fiction feels like Sisyphus pushing his boulder uphill, and the writing reads like insipid tripe. Yes, I know: don't hold back how you feel about your writing, Jeanne...
That said, I missed the Recipes from the Garden blog. I cooked over the weekend, making my amazing cornbread recipe and a delicious dish of fresh Swiss Chard, garlic, and black eyed peas. It was so good I made another batch. I looked down at my plate and realized that nearly my entire lunch for the week came directly from my organic garden.
And that gives me great joy, deep satisfaction, and a feeling of pride...a feeling I want to share with my readers.
Recipes from the Garden is a spin off of the Seven Oaks blog. Basically, it's a blog that focuses each month on seasonal recipes. Seasons are based on what is growing and ready to harvest from my garden or generally across the United States. It will focus on fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs but during months when the garden is sleeping (winter) and not much can be harvested, I'll focus recipes on comfort foods, comfort meals, and slow cooker meals.
I hope that you enjoy Recipes from the Garden. Please be sure to bookmark it and "Follow" it once you check it out.
And get ready to cook. I bought a new camera, and I have great plans - and high hopes - for reinventing my Recipes from the Garden blog. Now all I have to do is clean my kitchen before taking pictures....
